    An old mine cut is one of the antique cuts we specialize in. It's how diamonds were cut by hand over a hundred years ago: a smaller table, a taller crown, and big chunky facets that glow instead of glitter. This one was cut new, in the old style, for Simon.

    Why an old mine cut?

    Simon asked for an old mine cut by name. He loved how it holds its own in low light, and how different it looks from the brilliant cut stones you see everywhere. Less icy fire, more of a warm, elegant glow. It gave the ring a classier touch than the traditional brilliant feel.

    Ours are newly cut in the old mine style. We specialize in lab grown old mines, and if you'd rather have a natural stone, we can source that too.

    Custom rings at Smiro take about 11 weeks from deposit to your door: roughly 3 weeks of design, 6 weeks at the bench and 2 weeks of shipping, and we quote 10 to 14 weeks to leave room for stone sourcing.     Diamonds & Certification

    We are unwavering in our commitment to sourcing diamonds that are both conflict-free and ethically obtained. To guarantee this, we strictly adhere to the Kimberley Process, an international certification system that regulates rough diamond trade.

    In addition to the Kimberley Process, we work closely with trusted suppliers who provide detailed documentation and certifications verifying the origin of each diamond, ensuring both its ethical sourcing and its separation from conflict zones or related violence.

    As an added assurance of quality, all of our engagement and wedding rings (each stone 1ct or larger) are accompanied by an IGI Certification https://www.igi.org/

    We offer certified appraisal from a third-party gemologist for $100CAD. This appraisal provides you with an independent evaluation of your ring's value, ensuring that you have accurate information for insurance purposes.

    While we don’t typically work with client-provided settings, we’re open to making exceptions. In such cases, we may be able to ship the completed setting to you for stone setting on your end.

    That said, we also source gemstones and diamonds directly from trusted cutting factories, giving you access to exceptional quality and value if you're looking for a complete piece.

    Warranty & Protection

    At Smiro Studio, we are dedicated to crafting a ring that you will cherish. We keep you involved on every step in the process, with you making the final decision. Once you agree to your final design we will build your final (non-refundable) engagement ring.

    We are committed to standing behind our products, and our one-year warranty covers any production defects (not including the centre stone) from the date of purchase. We take great pride in the quality of our rings and want you to enjoy them for a lifetime.

    In case of lost accent diamonds, we will replace them within the warranty period. Please note that any damage caused by improper care or handling will be repaired at-cost within the warranty period. After the warranty period has ended, repairs may incur a small material and labor fee.

    Modifications or alterations made by another jeweller may void your care package and warranty. We encourage you to trust our expert team with any repairs or alterations to ensure that your ring remains in optimal condition.
