Tulip Basket with a Hidden Halo: Every Shape We Make

In this guide

Short answer: A tulip basket with a hidden halo is a four petal tulip setting with a row of small diamonds wrapped around the base of the stone, under the petals. The hidden halo holds the petals together and adds sparkle from the side, while the top view stays a clean solitaire. We make it in round, oval, emerald, radiant, cushion and pear, with settings from $2,299 CAD, and a pavé band version in marquise too.

This used to live on one product page. Since we split our designs by diamond shape, here is the whole setting in one place, with every shape you can order it in.

What is a tulip basket with a hidden halo?

Two details in one setting. The tulip basket setting turns each prong into a petal under the stone. A hidden halo is a row of small diamonds below the girdle that you only see from the side. With four petals the hidden halo is not just for looks: it is what ties the petals together and gives the setting its support.

Which shapes can I get it in?

Can I get a six petal tulip with a hidden halo?

On larger and elongated stones, yes. Six petals support themselves, so the halo is there for sparkle rather than structure. See the moval 6 tulip hidden halo and the oval six petal tulip hidden halo split shank. How the two compare: 4 petal vs 6 petal tulip basket.

What can I add to it?

A split shank that flows into the petals, a curved hidden halo, a pavé band, leaf prongs, or a coloured hidden halo with gemstones instead of diamonds. Most people pick one main detail so the side view stays clean. More ideas on the tulip basket setting page.

Does the hidden halo make the stone look bigger?

Not from the top, because it sits below the girdle. Its job is the side view: a flash of sparkle under the petals when the hand moves.

    Questions we get about this

Is a tulip basket with a hidden halo secure?

Yes. The hidden halo ties the four petals together, and each petal is a double wire, which holds up better than single prongs.

Can you see the hidden halo from the top?

No. From the top you see the diamond and the band. The halo shows from the side.

How much does a tulip basket with a hidden halo cost?

Our Made To Order settings start at $2,299 CAD in 14K gold, plus the diamond. With a pavé band they start at $2,799 CAD.

Can I get it in a marquise?

Yes, as the marquise tulip hidden halo pavé from $2,799 CAD, or as a custom design.
