Radiant Tulip Basket Engagement Rings: 5 Ways to Build One

In this guide

Short answer: A radiant with a tulip basket is an underrated pairing. The radiant's straight sides and crisp sparkle keep the top view clean and modern, and the basket adds a flower underneath. The main choices are the petal count (four petals with a hidden halo, or more petals on their own), whether to add a gallery rail, and whether to set gemstones in the petals.

If you want a radiant diamond with a tulip basket, this is the video for you. I'm going to show you five different ways to do it. The first one, radiant diamond with this marquise and round diamond bubble band with a classic tulip basket and gallery rail. The second one, again, classic radiant from the top with a tulip basket, curved gallery rail, and a diamond bridge. Number three, it's a four tulip petal set up with a hidden halo holding everything together. Number four, maybe my favourite on this list, natural sapphires within the petals of the tulip basket. You have pink sapphires, yellow sapphires, little stones on the side. And again, on the other side, a full sapphire basket. And number five, a cathedral going into a curved gallery rail with four tulip petals holding everything together.

    1. Bubble band with a gallery rail

A radiant on a bubble band of marquise and round diamonds, with a classic tulip basket and a gallery rail. A gallery rail is the band of metal that runs around the basket and ties the prongs together.

    2. Curved gallery rail and a diamond bridge

A classic radiant from the top, with a tulip basket, a curved gallery rail and a diamond bridge underneath.

    3. Four petals and a hidden halo

Four tulip petals with a hidden halo holding everything together. On a four petal basket we always add the hidden halo, because it gives the setting its support.

    4. Natural sapphires in the petals

Our favourite on this list. Natural pink and yellow sapphires set into the petals of the basket, small stones on each side, and a full sapphire basket. From the top it is still a white radiant.

    5. Cathedral with a curved gallery rail

A cathedral that rises into a curved gallery rail, with four tulip petals holding the stone.

Why a radiant works so well in a tulip

Radiants have clipped corners and a busy, crushed-ice sparkle. Four claw prongs on the corners protect them, and the petals underneath soften a shape that can otherwise feel very geometric. You keep the modern top view and get something softer from the side.

    Questions we get about this

    What is a gallery rail?

A band of metal that runs around the setting under the stone and connects the prongs. On a tulip basket it sits between or above the petals.

Can I put sapphires in a tulip basket?

Yes. Natural sapphires in pink, yellow or blue can be set into the petals, and they do not show from the top.

Radiant or elongated cushion for a tulip basket?

Both work. The radiant reads sharper and more modern. The cushion reads softer. See our comparison.

How much does a radiant tulip basket ring cost?

A fully custom ring from us starts at about $4,000 USD, and most of the rings we build land between $4,000 and $5,000. Our Ready To Order settings start at $1,299 CAD, plus the diamond. The centre stone moves the price most: in September 2026 a 2 carat lab grown diamond ran about $2,500 CAD and a 3 carat about $2,700 CAD. Hand engraving, a hidden halo, a split shank and gemstones in the petals each add bench time. Real numbers are in our cost guide.

Is a radiant or an emerald cut better for an engagement ring?

A radiant has brilliant faceting, so it sparkles more and hides small inclusions. An emerald is a step cut with calm, broad flashes and needs a cleaner stone. Same rectangular outline, very different look.

    What is a bubble band?

A band set with round diamonds that sit up like a row of bubbles instead of flush pavé. Ours mixes marquise and round diamonds.
