Low Profile Engagement Rings

Coley's 4.28 carat moval engagement ring in 14K yellow gold, a low profile six petal tulip on a split shank, worn on a hand held up to a frozen mountain lake

Low profile engagement rings, close to the finger, nothing to catch.

A low profile engagement ring sits close to the finger, so it catches less on hair, sweaters and gloves. Ours start at $3,250 CAD with a 2 carat lab grown diamond in 14K gold. The one trade-off: a straight wedding band won't sit flush against a low setting, so plan the band with the ring.

What low profile actually means

Every ring we draw has one of three heights. Medium has a bridge under the stone, so a straight wedding band slides underneath; 80 to 90 percent of our rings are medium. Medium low sits a little lower and the band touches the prongs. Low has no bridge at all, and the diamond sits right above the finger.

Low catches the least. The full trade-off is in setting height: medium, medium low or low.

A bezel is the most snag-free

A bezel wraps a thin rim of metal around the stone instead of prongs, so there is nothing to catch on hair or gloves, and every corner of the diamond sits inside metal. Our full bezel low profile rings start at $3,300 CAD with a 2 carat lab grown diamond in 14K gold.

Pros and cons in bezel engagement rings. A half bezel covers two sides and leaves two open, and a split shank can sit low too, like Matthew's 3.03 ct oval.

Low doesn't have to mean plain

Low settings still take detail. A hidden halo can sit under a low cushion, a tulip basket can sit low on a split shank, and engraving can run along the gallery rail. Coley and Julian's moval has coloured gemstones tucked inside each petal and still sits low enough for everyday wear.

The one thing to settle early is the wedding band. A low ring needs a curved band, or you accept a small gap. Tell us on the call and we design both together. More on bands in will a wedding band sit flush.

Questions we get

Are low profile engagement rings less likely to snag?

Yes. The lower the stone sits, the less it catches. A low bezel has no prongs at all, so nothing catches on hair, sweaters or gloves.

Will a wedding band sit flush with a low profile ring?

Not a straight one. A low setting has no bridge for the band to slide under, so you need a curved band or a small gap. See setting height.

How much does a low profile engagement ring cost?

Our full bezel low profile rings start at $3,300 CAD and the emerald half bezel at $3,250 CAD, each with a 2 carat lab grown diamond in 14K gold.

Can a tulip basket be low profile?

Yes. Our moval tulip sits low on a split shank and still shows the petals from the side.

Can I see how low it sits before it's made?

Yes. You mark up a CAD file with the measurements, then approve a 360 render. Nothing is made until you say yes.
