An East West Radiant in a Thin Platinum Bezel
By Clint Casmiro, Co-Founder, Smiro Studio · Updated October 22, 2026
Short answer: This ring sets a 2.59 carat radiant cut sideways across the finger, east west, in a thin full platinum bezel. The bezel sits on a 14K yellow gold split shank that flows into a cathedral, on a flat 3 mm band. Under the stone, the bridge carries a purple alexandrite on one side and an emerald on the other. A bezel suits an east west radiant because it covers all four corners and keeps the ring low and smooth.
A radiant set east west is one of the more modern looks we build. Here is a real one from our client rings, with what each choice does.

Why set a radiant east west?
Turned sideways, a radiant reads wide and modern instead of long. Its long side runs across the finger. Any elongated shape can go east west, and we compare them in east west engagement rings.
Why a thin bezel on a radiant?
- The corners are covered. A radiant has four cut corners. A full bezel wraps all of them, so nothing is exposed.
- Thin keeps the stone big. A thin rim shows more of the diamond than a heavy one, so the 2.59 carats read at full size.
- White on yellow. The platinum bezel frames a white diamond without a yellow outline, while the band stays warm.
Why the split shank and the bridge stones?
The split shank opens the band as it meets the bezel and flows up into the cathedral, which gives the ring some shape from the side. The two stones on the bridge sit under the diamond, so they show from the side and are mostly a detail for the wearer. If you are new to that part of the ring, see what the bridge is, and for another way to hide colour, sapphires in the tulip petals.
How to get an east west radiant like this
Tell us the radiant size and ratio you are after, bezel or prongs, one metal or two, and any stones you want on the bridge. The east west collection and bezel settings are good starting points.
Like every ring we make, this one was designed over video, with no walk-ins or studio visits. A custom ring takes 10 to 12 weeks from deposit to your door, and we work with couples across Canada and the US.

What does east west mean on an engagement ring?
The stone is set sideways, across the finger, instead of pointing up the hand. It works with any elongated shape, including radiant, oval, emerald, pear and marquise.
Is a bezel good for a radiant cut?
Yes. A full bezel covers all four corners of the radiant, which are the most exposed part of the stone, and gives a smooth outline that does not catch.
Can the bezel be a different metal from the band?
Yes. On this ring the bezel is platinum and the band is 14K yellow gold.
Can I add gemstones under the stone?
Yes. This ring has a purple alexandrite on one side of the bridge and an emerald on the other.
Does an east west stone look wider?
Yes. The long side runs across the finger, so the stone reads wide instead of long.
