    Short answer: An east west engagement ring sets an elongated diamond (oval, moval, emerald, pear or marquise) horizontally across the finger instead of pointing up the hand. It sits lower, snags less and looks modern. On a moval in a tulip basket it shows the stone's top and bottom corners, which reads completely differently from the traditional north south layout.

    Which shapes work east west?

    Any elongated shape: oval, moval, emerald, pear, marquise, elongated cushion and radiant. The longer the ratio, the more dramatic the effect.

    Why do people choose east west?

    It looks modern and unexpected, it sits lower along the finger, and it snags less on sweaters and hair.

    How does east west change a moval?

    Set north south, a moval reads a lot like a marquise. Set east west in a tulip basket, it shows its top and bottom corners, and the shape looks softer and wider. We have built both.
