The 3 Carat Oval Tulip Basket Ring We Are Known For
By Clint Casmiro, Co-Founder, Smiro Studio, Toronto · Updated September 28, 2026
Short answer: The ring we are known for is a 3 carat oval in our six petal tulip basket. This one is an E colour, VVS2 oval with six petals stretching under the stone, a cathedral setting that flows into small half petals on the side, and a 2.2mm band that tapers toward the head. The basket is the star, and the top view stays a clean oval.
If you love flowers or want an oval diamond, this is exactly what I would get.

Custom rings you won't find at a big box store, episode 61. If you love flowers or want an oval diamond, this is exactly what I would get. This ring has this 3 carat E-colour VVS2 oval diamond, with the most stunning six tulip petal basket underneath. It's a cathedral setting and it goes into these little half petals on the side, with a 2.2mm band tapering down to it too. The star is definitely this tulip basket and it still keeps the top view so clean on the oval diamond.
The spec
| Part | This ring |
|---|---|
| Stone | 3 carat oval, E colour, VVS2 clarity |
| Setting | Six claw prongs, six petal tulip basket |
| Side profile | Cathedral flowing into half petals |
| Band | 2.2mm, tapering toward the head |
Why a 6 petal basket on an oval
Six petals give built-in support, so no hidden halo is needed, and they stretch the full length of the oval. It is our most popular setting. More on tulip baskets.
Why a 2.2mm tapered band
A slim band makes a 3 carat stone look bigger. Tapering toward the head adds to that and gives the side view a finer line.
Do you need E VVS2?
It is a top grade. Many people are just as happy a few grades lower, because the difference is hard to see face up. See where people overspend.
Make it yours
- A split shank instead of a cathedral.
- A coloured hidden halo.
- A more floral version.

What does a 3 carat oval cost?
It depends on the stone. See our cost guide for real numbers.
Is a 2.2mm band too thin for a 3 carat?
No. It tapers near the head and stays thick enough underneath for a stone this size.
What is a cathedral setting?
The band rises in arches to meet the head. See split shank vs cathedral.
How much does a 3 carat oval tulip ring cost?
A fully custom ring from us starts at about $4,000 USD, and most of the rings we build land between $4,000 and $5,000. Our Ready To Order settings start at $1,299 CAD, plus the diamond. The centre stone moves the price most: in September 2026 a 2 carat lab grown diamond ran about $2,500 CAD and a 3 carat about $2,700 CAD. 3 carats is the average stone we set. Real numbers are in our cost guide.
How big does a 3 carat oval look?
About 11 by 7.5mm face up for a typical 1.45 ratio. Longer ratios look bigger at the same weight.
