Engagement Ring Trends 2026: What 640+ Real Orders Show
By Clint Casmiro, Co-Founder, Smiro Studio · Updated October 22, 2026
Short answer: Our 2026 trends come from 644 ring orders paid between December 2025 and October 2026, not predictions. Yellow gold won with 76%, the median centre stone was 3.0 carats, 86% were D to F colour, 28% added hand engraving, 7% hid a gemstone only the wearer sees, and 89% were built so a straight wedding band sits flush.

These numbers come from our order tracker, the file that follows every ring from first payment to delivery, so each one is a ring someone paid for.
Is yellow gold still the top metal in 2026?
Yes, by a wide margin: 76% of our ring orders, and 14K yellow gold alone was 54%. Platinum was 10%, white gold 9%, two tone 3.6% and rose gold under 1%. If you want the stone to look whiter on yellow gold, rhodium tipped prongs or a two tone head do it. More in are most engagement rings white or yellow gold.
How big are centre stones in 2026?
Bigger than most people expect: the median is 3.0 carats, and only 3.9% of our orders were under 2 carats. Lab grown diamonds are a big part of why: most of our clients choose lab grown, and on our listed rings going from 2 to 3 carats adds $700 CAD.
| Centre stone | Share of ring orders |
|---|---|
| Under 1 carat | 0.5% |
| 1 to 1.99 carats | 3.4% |
| 2 to 2.99 carats | 39.4% |
| 3 to 3.99 carats | 41.4% |
| 4 carats and up | 15.2% |
611 ring orders with a carat recorded, December 2025 to October 2026. A range counts at its midpoint.
The trade-off at 3 carats and up is security: we recommend a cathedral setting from about 3 to 3.5 carats. See cathedral vs solitaire.
Is hand engraving a real trend or a niche?
Real: 28% of our ring orders, more than one in four, added hand engraving, and 47 orders (7%) hid a gemstone, like a birthstone, where only the wearer sees it. The details went underneath and inside, where the top view stays clean. Ideas on personalized engagement rings.
What colour and clarity are people choosing?
Colourless and eye clean: 86% of orders specified D, E or F colour and 97% VS1 clarity or better. About 5% chose a fancy colour on purpose, like champagne or pink. One honest caveat: our default quote is F colour and VS1 clarity, so these numbers reflect our advice as much as anyone's taste.
Are rings being built to stack with a band?
Almost all of them: 89% of ring orders were specced so a straight wedding band sits flush. That is mostly our default, since 80 to 90 percent of the rings we make are medium height. It has to be planned at the start, especially with a tulip basket. See curved vs straight wedding band.
Where are these rings going?
50% of ring orders came from the US and 29% from Ontario, then Alberta (5%) and British Columbia (4%). Whatever the trend, timing is the same: about 10 to 12 weeks from deposit to door for a custom ring.
Where does this data come from?
Ring orders with a deposit or final payment between December 2, 2025 and October 7, 2026, 644 in all, from our own order tracker. No names, emails or prices were used. The full method and every table are in the SMIRO Ring Report 2026.
