A Pink Pear Diamond Ring with a Butterfly in the Split Shank
By Clint Casmiro, Co-Founder, Smiro Studio, Toronto · Updated September 28, 2026
Short answer: This ring is a 3 carat light pink pear shaped diamond in a tulip basket. The split shank opens on the side profile, and inside it we built a butterfly with two small diamonds as its wings, flowing into an interconnected floral pattern. The same detail is matched on the bridge.

This right here is a custom ring you will never find at a big box store. So it's this 3 carat pink pear-shaped diamond, a light pink colour, set into this tulip basket and a split shank that opens up on the side profile. But within the split shank, we added this beautiful butterfly design with two little diamonds as the main wings. And then flowing from the bottom of the butterfly, we have this interconnected floral pattern. And look at every single leaf, every single petal has so much detail and that same detail is matched right on the bridge of the ring, really bringing everything together. Hands down, a unique ring you will never find at a big box store.
The stone
A 3 carat pear in a light pink. Soft pinks are harder to find than deep ones, which is part of why this ring is special. Our pink diamond guide covers lab pinks and natural pink sapphires.
How to set a pear
A pear has one point and one rounded end. The point needs protection, usually a V prong or a claw. In a tulip basket, the petals follow the outline, which is why our pink pear on the six shapes post has five.
The butterfly and florals
Inside the open split shank, a butterfly with two diamonds as its main wings. From the bottom of the butterfly, an interconnected floral pattern with detail in every leaf and petal. The bridge carries the same pattern, so the whole side view ties together.
Pear direction
Most people wear the point toward the fingertip, which lengthens the finger. Point toward the wrist is also traditional in some places. Tell us which you want.

Which way should a pear diamond point?
Usually toward the fingertip. It is your choice.
Are pink diamonds lab grown or natural?
We work with both and with natural pink sapphires. We tell you plainly which a stone is.
Can the butterfly go somewhere else?
Yes. The shoulder, the basket or the bridge. See butterfly rings.
How much does a pink pear engagement ring cost?
A fully custom ring from us starts at about $4,000 USD, and most of the rings we build land between $4,000 and $5,000. Our Ready To Order settings start at $1,299 CAD, plus the diamond. The centre stone moves the price most: in September 2026 a 2 carat lab grown diamond ran about $2,500 CAD and a 3 carat about $2,700 CAD. Coloured stones are priced one stone at a time. Real numbers are in our cost guide.
Is a pear shaped diamond a good engagement ring?
Yes. It is long like an oval with a point like a marquise, so it looks elegant and covers a lot of finger for its weight.
