By Clint Casmiro, Co-Founder, Smiro Studio, Toronto · Updated September 28, 2026
Short answer: Five rings built around diamonds most jewellers do not stock: a very light pink shield cut, a golden pear set on an angle with white diamonds beside it, a bowtie-free forest green moval, a skinny marquise with a 2.3 ratio, and a very elongated step cut Dutch marquise with scroll engraving even on its half bezel.
Five extremely unique diamonds, and the rings we built around them.

Number one, this pink shield cut ring. It is an extremely light pink colour and one of the most unique cuts you're going to see. You'll see this beautiful engraving on the band and stones on the bridge. Number two is this golden pear shaped stone. It's set on an angle, but the colour really stands out because we set it with these white diamonds acting as a halo on the sides. So you really see that colour. Number three is this forest green moval diamond. You'll see it's a bowtie free stone. So there's no bowtie in the centre. It's a beautiful colour set with kite side stones and a low profile tulip. Number four is this super skinny marquise. It's a 2.3 ratio set with so many claw prongs all over it. And this ring has the biggest hidden halo you were ever going to see extending the entire length of the stone. And number five, a super elongated step cut Dutch marquise. And look at this beautiful custom engraving all over the ring. Even the half bezel has that same scroll engraving work all over. That is five extremely unique diamonds and rings we just built.
1. Pink shield cut
A shield is a geometric shape with a flat top and angled sides that come to a point, like a crest. This one is an extremely light pink. The band has engraving and the bridge has small diamonds. See more colours on our unique diamonds page.
2. Golden pear, set on an angle
A golden pear set on a slight angle across the finger. White diamonds sit on the sides like a partial halo, and the contrast is what makes the colour stand out.
3. Forest green moval
A bowtie-free green moval, so there is no dark band in the centre. Kite side stones and a low profile tulip basket.
4. Skinny marquise, 2.3 ratio
Most marquises sit around 1.8 to 2.1 length to width. This one is 2.3, very long and very slim. It has extra claw prongs and the biggest hidden halo we have made, running the full length of the stone.
5. Elongated step cut Dutch marquise
A Dutch marquise with step cut facets and custom scroll engraving over the whole ring, including the half bezel that holds the ends.

What is a shield cut diamond?
A geometric shape with a flat top and angled sides meeting at a point, like a crest. It is uncommon and usually custom sourced.
What ratio is a skinny marquise?
Anything past about 2.1. This one is 2.3.
What is a half bezel?
A band of metal wrapping part of the stone, often the ends, instead of prongs. It protects points and adds a vintage look.
How much does a ring with an unusual diamond cost?
A fully custom ring from us starts at about $4,000 USD, and most of the rings we build land between $4,000 and $5,000. Our Ready To Order settings start at $1,299 CAD, plus the diamond. The centre stone moves the price most: in September 2026 a 2 carat lab grown diamond ran about $2,500 CAD and a 3 carat about $2,700 CAD. Unusual shapes and colours are priced one stone at a time. Real numbers are in our cost guide.
What are the rarest diamond shapes?
Shields, kites, lozenges, coffins and custom silhouettes are rarely stocked. Most are sourced or cut to order.
