Why do people add a euro shank?

To help the ring sit stable and balanced on the finger, especially under a bigger stone. Carlos added one under his 6.02 carat radiant to keep everything stable and comfortable. Juan's 5 carat marquise has one to keep it secure and balanced, and Sasha's 3.31 carat cushion has one so it sits nicely on the finger.

What are the pros and cons of a euro shank?

The pros: the stone sits upright, the ring feels solid, and the square base can carry engraving (it's one of the five places we carve by hand, see hand engraving). The cons: it adds $200 CAD, and it sits on the palm side, so it does nothing for the top view.
