Half Petal Tulip Baskets: Four Petals Plus Four Small Ones

Short answer: A half petal tulip has four main petals with four smaller half petals between them, eight in all. The half petals do the job of a gallery rail or hidden halo, so nothing else is needed underneath. 28 of the 411 tulips in our design file have them; listed ones start at $3,300 CAD with a 2 carat lab diamond.
Some people call them baby petals. They are the variation that makes a four petal tulip look fuller from the side without adding a row of diamonds.
What are half petals?
Small petals that sit between the main ones, lower and shorter. They reach up to brace the main petals the way a rail would, so the basket holds together on its own.

Do half petals work on every diamond?
Not every one, because the half petals need room between the main petals. In our file they sit mostly under ovals.

Most half petals sit between four main petals. On six petal baskets we add them in a smaller way, like the two baby petals in the split of a split shank. We check whether they fit your stone in the 3D drawing.
What do real half petal tulips look like?
Oscar's ring: a 3.29 carat emerald cut, four full petals and four half petals with four claw prongs, a two tone head on 14K yellow gold.
Xavier's ring: a 2.06 carat emerald with slightly chunkier petal prongs, four main tulips and four half tulips, three sided engraving and milgrain, on a euroshank.
Jacob's ring takes the idea to an oval: 2.53 carats in 14K yellow gold, four petals with half petals between, and a split shank running into the tulip. More emerald cut tulips in emerald cut tulip basket rings.

What is a half petal tulip basket?
