Short answer: This ring pairs a 4.5 carat radiant cut diamond in a classic cathedral setting with vintage scroll hand engraving over the whole band. The engraving runs on all three sides of the band, the outside and both edges, with a subtle milgrain border along the edges. The stone is big, but the engraving is what makes it one of a kind.

The best way to personalize your ring is with hand engraving. This is a 4.5 carat diamond set in a cathedral setting. The star of the show is this beautiful hand engraving all over the band and all around the ring. On all three sides of this band, we have this custom scroll hand engraving work with a milgrain border on the edges. What really makes a ring special is the detail that goes into making it, and the amount of time and effort it took to hand engrave every single area of this band makes this ring special.
What is in this ring?
- A 4.5 carat radiant cut diamond.
- A classic cathedral setting, where the band rises up to meet the head.
- Vintage scroll hand engraving on all three sides of the band.
- A fine milgrain border along the edges.
What is vintage scroll engraving?
Curling, leafy scrolls cut by hand into the metal. It is the pattern most people picture on an antique ring. We compare it with our floral pattern in floral vs vintage scroll engraving.
What is milgrain?
A row of tiny beads raised along the edge of the metal. It frames the engraving and gives the band a soft, finished edge. On this ring it is kept very subtle so the scrollwork stays the focus.
Why engrave all three sides?
Most engraved bands only show the pattern on the sides. Engraving the outside of the band as well means the pattern shows from every angle, including when you look straight down at the hand. It takes much more time at the bench, and that time is what makes the ring special.
Why a cathedral with a radiant?
A radiant is a big rectangle with brilliant faceting. The cathedral arches lift it and give the engraving a long, sweeping surface to run along. See how it compares in cathedral vs solitaire.
How can you tell good hand engraving?
Clean, deep cuts with no wobble, even spacing, and a pattern that flows around curves. We show the difference in good vs bad hand engraving.

Does hand engraving wear off?
It softens slowly over many years of wear, like any metal surface. Deeper hand cut engraving holds its detail much longer than machine or laser work.
Can engraving be added to any band?
It needs enough metal to cut into. Very thin bands and pavé bands do not leave room, which is why engraved rings usually have a plain metal band.
Is a 4.5 carat radiant too big for engraving to show?
No. A bigger stone pulls the eye first, and the engraving is what people notice next when they look closer.
How much does a hand engraved radiant ring cost?
A fully custom ring from us starts at about $4,000 USD, and most of the rings we build land between $4,000 and $5,000. Our Ready To Order settings start at $1,299 CAD, plus the diamond. The centre stone moves the price most: in September 2026 a 2 carat lab grown diamond ran about $2,500 CAD and a 3 carat about $2,700 CAD. Hand engraving adds bench time, and the more of the ring it covers, the more it adds. Real numbers are in our cost guide.
What is the best way to personalize an engagement ring?
Hand engraving. It is cut by hand for your ring, so no two are exactly alike.
