What to Engrave Inside a Ring: Ideas That Fit

Short answer: Keep it short. On our rings, inner band engraving is free for up to 10 to 12 characters, so the classics are a date, two sets of initials, or one or two words. Beyond text, we laser engrave handwriting, moon phases, stars and paw prints inside the band, and we can set a birthstone there too.

How much text fits inside a ring?
About 10 to 12 characters, on our free inner band engraving. That covers a full date, two sets of initials, or a short word or two. If your phrase runs longer, tell us on the call and we will tell you what fits on your band.

What else can go inside the band?
More than text. Our seven inside-the-band styles are three phases of the moon, birthstone stars, a sun and stars, paw prints, a date with birthstones, a secret message and your own handwriting. We can also set a small birthstone inside the band, where only the wearer sees it.

Is inside engraving done by hand or by laser?
By laser, for clean, exact lines that small. Hand engraving goes on the outside: the band, the bridge, the gallery rail, the euroshank and the bezel edge. Where each one fits is in can any ring be engraved.
How do we make sure it is spelled right?
We send the text back to you to confirm, exactly as it will be engraved, before anything is cut. Check dates in the order you want them read, and double check names with accents.
Any ideas that work well?
- A date that matters. The proposal, the wedding, or the day you met.
- Initials. Yours, or each other's, swapped between the two bands.
- A word only you two use. A nickname or an inside joke.
- Handwriting. A short word in your partner's own writing.
- A symbol. Moon phases from a date, stars, or a paw print for the dog.
