Engagement Ring Styles

Engagement ring styles, side by side.

An engagement ring's style comes from its setting: how the diamond is held, how high it sits and what the band does on the way up. These are the settings we build most, with prices in CAD and the trade-off of each. The tulip basket is the one we're known for, with over 1,000 built.

Solitaire and cathedral

A solitaire is one diamond on a plain band. A cathedral lifts it on arches of metal that rise from the band to the head, so the stone sits higher and the band looks like it climbs into the setting.

Compare them in cathedral vs solitaire, and see a cathedral with a hidden halo.

Bezel, half bezel and low profile

A bezel wraps the diamond in a smooth rim of metal, the most protective setting. A half bezel holds it on two sides and leaves the other two open. A low profile ring sits close to the finger so it catches less, from $3,250 CAD with a 2 carat lab grown diamond.

Split shank and pavé

A split shank divides into two strands near the centre stone and flows up into the setting; settings start at $1,499 CAD. Pavé sets small diamonds along the band, 75% of the way down on our classic pavé tulip, and hidden pavé moves them to the sides. See split shank, pavé and split shank vs cathedral.

Questions we get

What are the main engagement ring setting styles?

The ones we build most: tulip basket, hidden halo, solitaire, cathedral, bezel and half bezel, low profile, split shank, pavé, three stone and toi et moi.

Which engagement ring setting is the most secure?

A bezel, because metal wraps the edge of the stone. A half bezel protects two sides and leaves two open.

Which engagement ring setting doesn't snag?

A low profile ring or a bezel. Both keep the diamond close and smooth at the edge.

Can I combine setting styles?

Yes. A hidden halo can sit under a tulip basket, a tulip basket can sit low on a split shank, and engraving can run along the band.

What is a tulip basket setting?

Prongs shaped into petals that form a basket under the diamond. We have built over 1,000 in every diamond shape. See tulip basket engagement rings.
