Every Tulip Basket Variation We Have Built, With Photos

In this guide

Short answer: We have built over 1,000 tulip baskets, and they come down to about 18 variations you can mix: 4 or 6 petals, half or leaf petals, a hidden halo or gallery rail, diamonds or gemstones in the petals, a bezel, three stones, a sideways stone, a split shank and a low profile. Each is below with a real photo.

Use this page like a menu. Most of our rings combine two or three of these, and the counts come from our ring design file, every custom ring we have drawn in 3D.

What petal styles can a tulip basket have?

6 petals: six prongs opened into petals that brace each other, our most popular (217 in our file). 4 petals: four petals tied together underneath, here by a hidden halo (133).

Half petals: four main petals with four small ones between, eight in all (28). Leaf prongs: prongs shaped or engraved like leaves (16).

Two more you can ask for, both rare in our file so far: crossover petals, which curve past each other so the basket looks woven (see crossover petals on a marquise), and overlapping petals, layered like a fuller flower.

What can hold a four petal basket together?

Gallery rail: a plain band of metal around the petals (33). Curved hidden halo: a row of small diamonds that follows the stone (36); the straight version is the classic hidden halo (82).

What can go inside the petals?

Diamond petals: a small diamond set in each petal (24). Gemstone petals: coloured stones instead, like the marquise shaped gems in Coley and Julian's moval.

Dutch marquise tulip setting in 14K yellow gold, front view: petals around the stone with small diamonds set in them

Petal diamonds around the stone: petal shaped diamonds circling the centre, on our Dutch Marquise 6 Tulip Split Shank. Sapphires work too: sapphires hidden in the petals.

Which heads can sit over a tulip?

Full bezel: a rim of metal around the stone, petals below, like Steven's 2.53 carat round (21). Three stone: petals under the centre and each side stone (20).

East west: the stone turned sideways across the finger. Double claws: two claws at each corner of the stone, as on Carlos' 6.02 carat radiant (20).

How can the band meet the basket?

Megan and Reid's 3 carat marquise in 14K yellow gold held in a ring clamp, six petals over a split shankMoval tulip in 14K yellow gold set low on a split shank, front view

Split shank: the band opens in two and flows into the petals, as on Megan and Reid's marquise (156). Low profile: no bridge, the basket just above the finger (19).

And the shoulders: 367 of our 411 tulips sit on a cathedral, 19 run straight in as a solitaire. See tulip vs cathedral.

Which details go around the basket?

Sonam's Ashoka cut ring in a ring cloth, the band hand engraved with small starsJuan's 5 carat marquise in 18K yellow gold held in a ring cloth, tulip petals and diamonds on the bridge

Hand engraving: on the band, bridge or rail, like the stars on Sonam's Ashoka (119). Bridge diamonds: small diamonds under the basket, seen from the side, on Juan's 5 carat marquise (87).

From our ring design file: 714 custom rings drawn in 3D, 411 of them with a tulip basket, as of October 2026. A ring usually has several, so the column adds up to more than 411.

Prices for the listed ones are in how much a tulip setting costs.

    Questions we get about this

How many tulip basket variations are there?

About 18 that we build regularly, mixed two or three at a time: petal styles, what holds the petals, stones in the petals, the head, the band and the details.

What is the most popular tulip basket?

Six petals on cathedral shoulders. 217 of the 411 tulips in our design file have six petals and 367 sit on a cathedral.

    Can I combine variations?

Yes. Most of our rings do, like a six petal basket on a split shank with engraving on the bridge. We show the combination in 3D before anything is made.

What is the most unusual tulip you have built?

One of our favourites is Sonam's 2.5 carat Ashoka cut in a six petal tulip, with hand engraved stars, mountains, a lotus and the Himalayas.

Is a flower basket the same as a tulip basket?

Yes. Flower basket, petal setting and tulip basket all describe prongs shaped into petals under the stone.
