Celestial Engagement Rings: Constellations, Stars and Zodiac Signs
By Clint Casmiro, Co-Founder, Smiro Studio · Updated October 22, 2026
Short answer: A celestial engagement ring carries stars, constellations or zodiac signs, usually hand engraved on the bridge or inside the band. On our client rings: a 2 carat Dutch marquise with constellation engraving and emeralds on the bridge, a 5 carat marquise with zodiac signs inside the band, and a 4.54 carat radiant with stars on one side of the bridge and waves on the other.
We carve 56 styles of hand engraving, and these three rings put the sky in three different places.
What does constellation engraving look like on a ring?
A pattern of points and lines along the bridge, here with three emeralds set on each side.

Kirt and Amber's ring: 2 carat Dutch marquise, 18K yellow gold.
- Centre stone
- 2 carat Dutch marquise diamond
- Setting
- Cathedral, six claw prongs
- Band
- 18K yellow gold, 3 mm
- Details
- Constellation style engraving along the bridge, three emeralds on each side
The emeralds give the profile colour, and the engraving reads like a night sky under the stone. See Kirt and Amber's ring.
Can zodiac signs be engraved inside a ring?
Yes. On this ring the zodiac sign engravings sit inside the band beside a blue sapphire and a light blue aquamarine.

Juan's ring: 5 carat marquise, 18K yellow gold.
- Centre stone
- 5 carat marquise diamond
- Setting
- Tulip basket, four claw prongs plus two V prongs, euroshank
- Band
- 18K yellow gold, pavé with five stones on each side, accents on the bridge
- Inside
- A blue sapphire and a light blue aquamarine with zodiac sign engravings
From the outside it is a bold marquise tulip. The sky is the private part, inside the band. Our other marquise tulips are in marquise tulip baskets. See Juan's ring.
Can stars share a ring with another pattern?
Yes. This radiant has a star pattern on one side of the bridge and a wave design on the other.

Shawali and Jaspal's ring: 4.54 carat radiant.
- Centre stone
- 4.54 carat radiant cut diamond
- Setting
- Platinum head, hidden halo
- Band
- 14K yellow gold, flat
- Bridge
- Engraving split between a wave design on one side and a star pattern on the other
Clean from the top, with the sky and the sea showing from the side. For more one sided designs see asymmetrical engagement rings. See Shawali and Jaspal's ring.
Where can celestial details go on a ring?
On the bridge, inside the band, or on the band itself.
| Ring | Where | What |
|---|---|---|
| Kirt and Amber's | Bridge | Constellation engraving and emeralds |
| Juan's | Inside the band | Zodiac signs, a sapphire and an aquamarine |
| Shawali and Jaspal's | Bridge, one side | Stars, with waves on the other side |
On our Ashoka cut ring the stars run down the band, each with a small diamond inside.
